Ancestor Approved Award

I was pleased to learn over the weekend that I had received the "Ancestor Approved Award" from Linda McCauley at Documenting the Details and Lori over at Genealogy and Me. THANK YOU both for recognizing Flipside with this honor. As a recipient of this award, I am to list 10 things I have learned about my ancestors that have surprised, humbled or enlightened me and then pass the award on to 10 other genealogy bloggers who I feel are doing their ancestors proud. I was surprised category:

1. To learn from my maternal great grandfather's Civil War Pension File that he was sent to a mental institution for "lunacy" in the early 1890's.

2. To learn from a cousin in Hartlepool, that my paternal great grandparents followed Fred Olesen to America. I don't think that was true.

3. To learn that my paternal gggggg grandparents owned slaves.

4. To learn that my maternal great grandfather lost a leg in a train accident before 1900 in Youngstown, Ohio I was enlightened category:

5. That my paternal great grandfather was a census enumerator for the 1900 West Virginia census in Morgantown, West Virginia.

6. That the same paternal great grandfather was an elected official in Morgantown, West Virginia.

7. That the small village of Cannon's Mill in Columbiana County, Ohio was named for my ggg grandfather, Lindsay Cannon and his mill.

In the humbled category:

8. By the strength of my paternal great grandmother, Jessie Pool VanGilder to make a life for herself and her three girls following her husbands early death.

9. At the fortitude it took my maternal ggg grandfather to fight the US government in the mid 1850's and win. They tried to make him pay back the pension money that was given to his father-in-law following his death.

10. At the courage of all of my late 1700 and early 1800 pioneer ancestors who began to cross the wilderness to find a home inland from the original colonies. This chosing of ten to receive awards is always so difficult as all the blogs I read are worthy. I have checked to see those blogs that have already received this award and will try to send it along to fellow genealogy bloggers who have yet to be recognized. 1. A Bloggers Best Friend Award from Hummer

     Thank you Hummer, over at Branching Out Through the Years, for brightening up my day. I was so tired when I got home from work this afternoon and when I checked my blog comments there was the special "Bloggers Best Friend Award from my friend Frances.

     I am always anxious to read Hummer's new posts when they appear on my feed. Hummer you say you are a "greenie", but you write like a seasoned pro! THANK YOU....THANK YOU....THANK YOU. 

     I probably sound like a broken record, however I am saying it again.....I was so fortunate when I found the geneablogging community. I continue to learn from reading all the wonderfully written blogs and also from the comments given to me. I have formed some great friendships and look forward to hearing from y'all on Flipside and Facebook. 

     The developer of the award 'Bandit' "A Blogger's Best Friend Award" says it shall be given to your most loyal blog readers. Thus, the award should be given to a follower of yours who takes the time to comment regularly on many of your posts. In addition his or her blog should be creative, funny and always entertaining. 

     Upon receiving this award, pass it along to two fellow bloggers who fit this criteria. I guess we are to choose two....WHEW....two.....I can think so many.... I hear from Carol over at Reflections From the Fence on just about every one of my blogs and there are thoughtful comments from Dorene over at Graveyard Rabbit of Sandusky Bay. Both blogs fit the criteria outlined by the developer of the award. Congratulations. I am passing along this award to each of you.

The new Kreativ Blogger Award--THANKS LORI

THANK YOU TO my blogging buddy, Lori, over at Family Trees May Contain Nuts, for sending Flipside the new Kreativ Blogger Award. Lori must read hundreds of blogs daily and she ALWAYS leaves positive and usually humorous comments. She is the BEST!!!

My always humorous blogging buddy, Lori E, over at Family Trees May Contain Nuts, has bestowed upon Flipside the coveted award...Atta Girl....and all I had to do was eat and pay an outrageous amount for a very nasty steak dinner to get a blog in from my vacation.

What I neglected to mention was that for $2.00 a half hour, I could have used the computer down at the administration building in the Treasure Lake complex, but that would have meant downloading the photos and blog onto a thumbnail....too much trouble when on vacation...don't ya think!

Nope, instead I paid about $15.00 just to use my notebook. BTW, I also also had enough time to catch up on a week's worth of e-mails, but not enough time to catch up on by blog reading.

This has been quite a week for me. Three honors in two days have been a bit overwhelming. Maybe turning 62 last Friday was the charm!

It is indeed heartwarming to know first, that someone out there is actually reading the blog and second, that they feel it deserves a shout out.
