Tombstone Tuesday--Sampson Smith Frum

One of the benefits of my cleaning out hard copy files is that I am finding blogs that I have missed writing.  Featuring the grave marker of my paternal great great great great grandfather is one.

In June, 1995, with a lot of assistance from Morgantown family, I was able to locate The Old Frum Cemetery, also listed as The Bell cemetery.   I believe that the first photos taken of the cemetery and remaining markers were taken then.

Sampson Smith Frum, son of William Frum and Anna Smith, was born on January 27, 1790 in Frederick County, Virginia.  He died at the age of seventy-three on November 13, 1863 in Monongalia County, (West) Virginia. He is buried beside his wife, Elizabeth Ann VanGilder in the cemetery that was located on a piece of his land beside Aarons Creek.

Sampson's tombstone is barely legible.  There appears to be a tree of life at the top.  In 1939 there was a written list compiled of this cemetery.  Sampson's tombstone was read as:

Sampson Frum

b. 1-27-1790

d. 11-13-1863

Veteran War 1812

During the War of 1812, Sampson was a Lieutenant from Monongalia County, (West) Virginia. He resigned the position in 1817 (Zinn)
