I have been working on my family genealogy for seventeen years and wanted to have a place to write family stories and share my research. A blog was the perfect vehicle. Flipside comes from my brother who would end his e-mails to me saying...."catch ya on the flipside". With the usual insanity we all find in our lives, I decided that I would like to be on the flipside, enjoying my genealogy persuits, photography, gardening and travel. Hence the blogs name.
Through the GeneaBlogger group I have had numerous memes and prompts to use as writing tools for my genealogy blogs. I have been able to feature many of the historical family memorabilia that I have collected over the years including photographs, photo postcards, household items, clothing, etc. I have visited most of my direct lines final resting places and taken photographs of the tombstones and have tried to visit their former residences.
Included are stories that have been passed down through the generations, some that I have recorded from more recent family members and some that I have been able to write from records I have located.
Finally, there is a series I began called Stories in Stone. I have noticed the various older buildings in small towns that have the name and date of the first owner etched in stone at the top of the building. I research the name of the family and find as much information about them as I can before writing a blog about the building and family.
Welcome to Flipside and I hope you enjoy what you find.
Addendum: I do have a genealogy homepage which you might enjoy visiting. The Linda Hughes Hiser Family Genealogy Home Page.
