Evelyn over at A Canadian Family Acadian and French-Canadian Genealogy is sponsoring a new carnival--A Festival of Postcards and this month's topic is wheels.
I am a collector of numerous items, however, postcards is not one of them. I am thrilled to have found a postcard photo of my Dad when he was about 2 years old, probably taken on the front porch of his grandparents house in Woodlawn, Pennsylvania. The date would be circa 1923 and there is my Dad, George VanGilder Hughes, driving his first set of wheels and from the smile on his precious little face, loving every minute of it. TOO CUTE!!
This is just wonderful - and quite amazing that people used to make photo postcards like this! I love the vintage tricycle and together with the two bicycle posts that have been submitted, it'll make a nice little cycling section!

That is really cool. I have some Father Christmas postcards but they are not original, just reproductions.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to go through some once in an antique store but some guy was hogging them and I couldn't get near them.
I love his satisfied little expression; we call that "Big Britches."
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute picture. So many old family photos aren't identified. I think it would be good if you wrote the information lightly in pencil on the back of the postcard.
ReplyDeleteHe really is TOO cute! I love his little shoes and leggings. Also noticed the curve of the screen door curlicue - looks like part of a wheel, too!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great card! It's cute anyway, but for it to be your dad too makes it very special.
